Face Scrubs

My Scrub Collection

About once a week I use a face scrub to remove any dead skin cells and flakey skin I may have. Scrubs can be good to use as they exfoliate, but they can also be harsh depending on your skins condition and how sensitive you are. I have a few that I have been using for a while now, and one is my HG scrub!

St. Ives Apricot Scrub

This is the classic scrub. It has been around forever and I remember it in my house growing up. It is oil free, and the scrubby bits are crushed apricot pits. While this is the scrub of my youth, I find that it is too harsh for my skin now. I feel like the crushed pits have course edges and cut into my skin. But don't write this scrub off just yet. Although it is too harsh for my face, it is perfect for a body scrub. I like to use it on my legs before shaving. This retails for $ 3.89 for 6 oz. Would I repurchase? Yes, but not for my face.

St. Ives Pink Lemon and Mandarin Orange Scrub

I was excited when St. Ives expanded their face scrub line with three new scrubs. I only picked up two, this one and the green tea below. I hope to get the third soon. Pink lemon and mandarin orange smells divine. It is very citrusy, but not cloying. The texture of this scrub is creamy and the particles are very fine. It gives a great scrub without feeling like you damaged your skin. All the particles feel similar in shape and size, without sharp edges. I like this very much. It leaves my skin refreshed and smooth. It doesn't irritate my sensitive skin at all. This is my HG face scrub! It retails for $3.89 for 6 oz.  I will always repurchase this.

St. Ives Green Tea Scrub

This scrub is meant to "clear blackheads and calm redness". It contains salicylic acne medication, so those sensitive to this will want to avoid it. This is a bit more of a paste than the previous one. It also has fine particles that do a great job of scrubbing my face. It isn't too harsh to cause irritation, but over-use can cause dryness. It has a fresh scent, but doesn't smell like a typical tea scent. I think it's almost a fruity scent. I use this when my skin decides to rebel against me and breakout. I like it. This retails for $3.89 for 6 oz. Yes I will repurchase.

Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub

This scrub is very creamy with the particles being a bit bigger. This is also a salicylic acid scrub for acne. This does a decent job of scrubbing the skin, but can leave my skin feeling dry. A moisturizer is a must for me immediately after I use this one. This isn't my favorite. It's just meh for me. It retails for $6.47 for 5 oz. Would I repurchase? Probably not.

Acure Brightening Facial Scrub

This scrub will definitely remove things. If you are looking for that insane scrub that will remove layers of skin you no longer need, look no further. This thing is for the person who feels like no scrub is scrubby enough. It is for the rare gem who would like to remove the top layer of epidermis right off. While I'm sure it has it's legions of fans, sensitive users should heed caution. This is a very gritty scrub with various particle sizes. It is way too rough for my skin, as I felt like I was rubbing sand on my face. I don't think I've ever used anything so harsh on my face before. If my face was a rough stone before, it was certainly a polished gem after. I received this in a sample box from Target. The full size retails for $9.99 for 4 oz. I would not buy it.

Borghese Age Defying Cellular Complex

Borghese Age Defying Cellular Complex Facial Scrub is quite a name isn't it? I mean, you feel like you are getting a high quality scrub when you say that. It is comprised of a gel-like formula with light reflecting micro-shimmer, and multiple sized particles. While it is a bit scrubbier than what I typically like, it does do a good job. It is green tea scented, which I like. The one thing that really bothers me about this product is the micro-shimmer. I just feel like it has no purpose other than to make it look glamourous. While this normally wouldn't bother me in a product like shower gel, I have to wonder if it is in there in hopes that it will leave behind some shimmer on the skin giving a false "glow". I want to know that what I'm using is actually making my skin look better, not just leaving behind something to give me an effect. This retails for $16 for 4.2 oz. Would I repurchase? Probably not.

Thats a wrap on my current scrub collection. All in all, I would highly recommend giving the new St. Ives scrubs a try. They are inexpensive, and work great! I hope this review was helpful.
