Face Mask Love

Face Mask Love

There are so many varieties of face masks to choose from with varying claims that it can get overwhelming trying to figure out where to begin. Some masks peel off like latex, others are clay. Some are for aromatherapy, while others are meant to hydrate. Here is a review of the ones I've used, and as someone with sensitive skin, I have to be careful about what I use.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque

Let me start by saying that mint is my spirit flavor. It is my zen. I love mint lotion, soap, candy, tea, fragrance. It also can bring tears to my eyes. Literally. As much as I love mint, putting this stuff on my face makes my eyes light up like the 4th of July. It's not pretty. The texture of this mask is very thick and firm, and the clay does a good job of drying up an overly oily area. I like the over-all effect that this mask gives my face, but the minty tingle and burning eyes prove to be too much here for me. It retails for $2.99 for 8 oz. Would I repurchase? No.

Freeman Pineapple Enzyme Mask

This mask has a creamy gel texture with a slight grit in it. This claims to "restore radiant skin". I have used this several times, and I don't feel like it does anything at all for my skin. It does however sting my skin due to sensitivity. I can't leave it in for too long, as the sensation is quite unpleasant for me. This retails for $4.29 for 6 oz. Would I repurchase? No.

Clarisonic Detoxifying Clay Mask

This clay mask has a very mild scent that doesn't bother my skin. It's a "weekly treatment to decongest and detoxify pores". This has a creamy clay texture. I like this mask a lot. I feel like it does a great job of cleaning my pores out, and leaving my skin refreshed. This doesn't dry out my skin, but does remove oils and impurities. This retails for $27 for 2 oz. Would I repurchase? Yes.

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

I received this from a Target sample box. This is a creamy gel that is very soft and light weight. You are supposed put the gel on your face before bed, and rinse off in the morning. I wanted to like this. However with my skin aging, I feel like this isn't heavy enough for me for a night time regimen. I think it is much more suited for a younger person with more supple skin. This retails for $23 for 80 ml. I would not purchase a full size version.

Montagne Jeunesse in Dead Sea

This is a clay mask that is creamy in texture with a divine salty sea vibe going on. This is so relaxing to use that I just want to curl up with a good book and unwind while using it. It does a great job of unclogging my pores and leaves my skin fresh and renewed. I wish I could purchase this in a larger size rather than just a sachet packet. Although one packet is enough for two full uses. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a spa-like mask. It retails for $2.49 for 0.7 oz. Would I repurchase? Yes, as I have been using this for years.

Que Bella Relaxing Aromatherapy Lavender Clay Mask

This is another mask that is meant to help strip away the stresses of the day. This is full on lavender, although not at all medicinal. I enjoy this mask also, as I love the way it helps me to relax. It also works well for clearing my pores and leaving my skin fresh. This is a very creamy clay similar to the Montagne Jeunesse. It retails for $1.99 for 0.5 oz. Would I repurchase? Yes.

Freeman Cucumber Peel-Off Mask

This mask reminds me of my pre-teen days when I thought I had really arrived in the world because I could use a face mask like the older girls. My how times have changed with regards to things we put on our faces as we age. While it might do a good job of pulling out the yucky stuff in my pores, tugging harshly on my skin no longer sounds as advantageous as it once did. This is an incredibly thick gel that is very gluey in consistency. Would I repurchase? No, unfortunately.

Freeman Feeling Beautiful Blue Agave Hydrating Facial Paper Mask

Whew, thats a mouthful! I have to say, "feeling Beautiful" isn't exactly how this mask is making me feel at the moment. I know some people really love their paper masks, but all I can think while wearing this is if my son wakes up in the middle of the night and sees this thing on me, it is going to scare the heck out of him. I mean, heck it scares me! The mask is drenched in serum that is worn for 5-10 minutes. Once removed, you rub in the remaining serum. No need for rinsing, unless your skin in finicky like mine. I couldn't go the full 10 minutes, as it was stinging my face quite a bit. I have tried this mask twice now, with the same results both times. This retails for $1.99 for 1 mask.  I won't repurchase this.

Well, all in all, I love trying new masks and also using old favorites. Thanks to one of the beauty bloggers that I've followed for some time now, Jen at Vibrant, Vivacious, Veracious Beauty Blog , I'm very curious about the May Lindstrom the Problem Solver Mask. Read her review HERE.

Have a beautiful day!!
